PACKET PICK UP: Saturday, June 7th

A note from the Dunedin Triathlon. THANKS!!!!

Thanks for registrating to join us at the 5th Annual Dunedin Triathlon. It's just one week until the Dunedin Triathlon . . . Yikes!!!! You're training hard, maybe just came off the Madiera “Mad” Beach Tri, and the Dunedin Triathlon team is working very hard to to put on another great event for you. Just to let you know, the packet pickup and pre-race registration is set for June 7th, the day before the race. It will be at St. Alfred's Church off of Curlew , from 1- 4pm:

Location: 1601 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, FL 34683 or click on link.

Registration will start at 12PM and run until 4PM. We realize that everyone may not be able to make this time frame, but it will great help you and the Tri team to register on Sat instead of Sunday morning. Yours (and our) race preparations will go a lot smoother registering on Sat vs Sun. Of course we will be registering on Sunday morning starting at 6AM until 7AM. Follow the directions to parking after you enter the park. Volunteers will direct you to registration.

4th Leg Transition Clinic will take place just before packet pickup at 12:15, also at St. Alfred's Church. An essential 45 minute clinic for every athlete that wants to learn how to get through the transition aspect of the triathlon hosted by American Running Company.

Thanks again, we hope you have a great race.

WHEN TO ARRIVE AT THE RACE:

The Triathlon attracts and average of 600 registered athletes. Therefore, to begin on time we ask that you plan to arrive on the island between 6 and 6:30 am . Parking staff will be on hand to direct you where to park as you arrive. There is no fee to get into the island for the race. Some of you may have to park farther north on the island and my have some distance to walk to get to the transition area and swim start. Give yourself plenty of time. Feel free to bring your own permanent magic marker to mark your race number on the front of both biceps on your arms and the center of both thighs. Brightroom will be photographing you many times throughout the event and will email you with your photos after the event with your option to purchase. The more visible your race number, the less photo's that end up in the lost and found section of our race photos.

SWIM WAVE AND RACE START TIME:

The race will begin as close to 7:30 as possible. We have always been able to begin on time but as conditions change from year to year we will make adjustments to be sure as many people are at the swim start as possible to begin the race on time. After the anthem is sung, the first wave will take off at 7:30 am.  Waves will be announced at packet pick up and throughout race morning.  Every athlete should be prepared to race at 7:30 am. The majority of the athletes will register in the "age group" division, however, we also offer a Clydesdale Division for men who weigh in over 200 lbs and an Athena  Division for ladies over 150 who wish to be in that division. Relay teams can consist of 2 or 3 members either male or female or mixed. Awards will be presented 5 deep in each category. Athletes must take off in the swim wave according to their division not their swim cap color. Occasionally we mix colors so you must go by the list that posts your age, gender and category. If you take off in the wrong wave you will not have a proper time and it will be noticeable. Swim waves time will be available on Saturday at packet pick up and not before. We try to arrange them with the greatest possible number of existing registrants.

WHAT SUPPLIES DO I NEED FOR THE RACE?

You need a bicycle. The race does not provide bikes for athletes but there are local bike shops that do rent bicycles by the day. In order to avoid upsetting competition, please Google search or look up Tampa Bay bike shops and I'm sure you will quickly be led to a bike if you need to rent one.

You need swim goggles or a mask. Snorkels and fins are not permitted in this event (yes, people actually ask us that)

Running and or bike shoes. Some athletes have special biking shoes with cleats that secure them to their bike pedals. Many use the same shoes for the bike and the run. It's up to you. There are some broken shells at the venue during the swim so you are allowed to wear water shoe on the swim.

Bring a towel to lay your items out in transition. Some folks like to bring a container of fresh water to rinse off their feet after the swim. Wear sunscreen, it's typically sunny and very hot. You will burn in one hour of racing in the sun. NEVER put sunscreen on your forehead …you'll NEVER forget the experience.

We provide a goody bag for you at packet pick up. In it you will find:

Your race number This must be worn during the run portion of the event. Have it secured to the shirt you will be running in or a race number belt before the race begins to ensure you wear it on the run.

A helmet or bicycle number If you find your race number on a small sticker label, it goes on the front center of your bike helmet. If you find your race number on a 4 x 8 label put in on the bar of your bike. If no number is provided beyond the race number intended for your run, be sure your body markings are legible as that is what we will rely on to identify you.

A t-shirt of course you all get a race t-shirt to wear whenever you would like to wear it. You will also receive many flyers and coupons of upcoming events you won't want to miss. Keep them to book your upcoming races. We price all of these races with incentives to register early and often offer discounts if you raced one of the other races we affiliate with.
